Siblings

Like many of you, I suspect, I have a sibling.  My sister’s name is Deana, and she is 3 years my senior (chronologically only, she’s in a lot better physical shape than me!)  Growing up, I know we had our share of fights, but now that I look back at life, she is one of the very few people who was always there for me.  I don’t recall many things from the early years, but I know we played together a lot.  I even played Barbies with her… such a good brother :)   I think we were that close because of our parents’ divorce.

I’ll admit, I idolized her growing up.  I took up the saxophone because she did (though I denied it).  I tried to take similar classes in school.  I don’t know if she really realized how important she was to me.  She still is.  Being the little brother (or big, little brother… I’ve been taller than her for a good long while now), I’m sure I annoyed the crap out of her.  I wonder if she ever really forgave me for that line drive baseball to the face…  It was an accident!  I’m no baseball star.  But I did get some good exercise that day as she chased me with a baseball bat.

Now that we’re adults, it feels like we’ve lost a bit of that closeness.  We both have work and kids.  We both have relationships.  We chat on Facebook sometimes.  We see each other occasionally at family functions.  But it doesn’t feel like enough.  She’s only a state away, but it feels like light-years sometimes.  I’ve told her before how much she means to me, but I wonder if she really gets it.  She’s my big sister, and I don’t know what I’d do without her.  Love you, sis.

Sorry for getting sappy, folks.  Enjoy the rest of your day!
